English Name: Croton, Sunny Star croton

Crotons (Codiaeum variegatum) are valued for their colorful, sturdy foliage. Leaves display various combinations of yellow, red, pink, orange and green, and have shapes varying from narrow and linear to broad and lobed. The variety "Sunny Star" has large, elliptical, mostly green leaves with a bold splash of yellow near the base of each leaf. The plant lends sparkle to interiors, and leaves and stems add vibrancy to flower arrangements.

Use: Can be used for Container, Foundation, Hedges, Houseplant, Mixed Border, Screening.

Height: 4 to 10 feet

Difficulty to grow:Medium.

Care: Crotons grow best in well-drained soil and in full sun to partial shade. Too much sun will bleach the color out of the leaves and too little will cause the leaves to be more green. Place your croton where it will receive six to eight hours of bright, unfiltered sunlight each day. Provide shade from direct summer sun during the hottest part of the day. Keep leaves dust-free and shiny by wiping them with a damp cloth. Dry air and soil will cause croton leaves to fall off.

Sunlight:Full Sun to Partial Shade

Fertilizer:Any organic fertilizer
